Car air conditioning systems are designed to keep drivers and passengers comfortable by managing the cabin temperature. To achieve this, several components work together in a closed-loop system. Each part has a specific role, ensuring efficient cooling and dehumidification.

Compressor

The compressor is often referred to as the heart of the air conditioning system. It compresses the refrigerant gas, increasing its pressure and temperature, before sending it to the condenser. Powered by the engine via a belt, the compressor ensures the refrigerant circulates through the system effectively.

Condenser

Located near the radiator, the condenser cools the high-pressure refrigerant gas from the compressor. As air flows over the condenser, the refrigerant releases heat and transforms into a high-pressure liquid. This cooling process is essential for the refrigerant to continue its journey through the system.

Expansion Valve or Orifice Tube

The expansion valve, or orifice tube in some systems, regulates the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. By reducing the pressure of the liquid refrigerant, it allows the refrigerant to cool significantly, preparing it for the next stage of the process.

Evaporator

The evaporator is located inside the car's cabin and is responsible for cooling the air. As the refrigerant passes through the evaporator, it absorbs heat from the cabin air, which is blown over the evaporator by a fan. This process cools the air and removes excess moisture, improving comfort.

Receiver-Drier or Accumulator

The receiver-drier, or accumulator in some systems, removes moisture and debris from the refrigerant. By filtering the refrigerant, it prevents damage to other components and ensures the system operates smoothly.
